How To Manage Oily Skin
As with every skin type, there’s pros and cons to having oily skin. Although it may be annoying to deal with an excess of oil everyday, individuals with oily skin often appear to show signs of aging slower than those with any other skin type.
Oil provides moisture and a plump look to the skin. With dry skin, you may appear to have more wrinkles. Normal and combination skin types fall somewhere between the two.
On the downside, excessive sebum production can cause acne, blackheads, and enlarged pores. In this article, we’ll discuss steps to managing oily skin and the best ways to treat excess sebum production.
What Is Oily Skin?
An oily skin type is characterized by an overproduction of sebum, enlarged pores, and possibly acne or breakouts. Oily skin naturally produces more oils than any other skin type, and for this reason is most prone to breakouts.
Often, those with oily skin will also have acne-prone skin.

How Can I Manage My Oily Skin?
Use mildly exfoliating ingredients in your daily skincare routine.
Products with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, and other gentle exfoliants will help keep your pores clear from excess sebum and bacteria.
Be careful using multiple exfoliating ingredients in one routine as that can lead to drying out the skin. You may need to work your way up to using multiple exfoliants in a single routine by starting at once weekly and then gradually increasing to daily use.
Use lightweight skincare products.
Products with a light consistency work best for oily skin and absorb most effectively. Gel cleansers and moistuziers are oily skin’s best option. If you tend to be acne-prone, you may also want to give foam cleansers a try.
Cleanse thoroughly
Due to the excess production of oil, pores can become clogged easily so cleansing is a very essential step. It’s important to ensure you’re giving your skin a deep cleanse morning and night.
Cleansing for 60 seconds helps to soften the skin, clean out pores, and clean off all the pollution, makeup, and sweat from the day. At night you’ll want to incorporate a double cleansing routine, especially if you’ve been wearing sunscreen or makeup during the day.
When will I see results?
As with any skincare product, you’ll usually have to wait about 4-6 weeks to see any substantial results. However, after two weeks of a consistent routine you should begin seeing small but noticeable changes.
Products made for oily skin tend to be drying. So when incorporating a new product into your regimen, it’s important to listen to your skin and adjust accordingly. It’s recommended to remain consistent with your routine to see any substantial changes in your skin.
