Most professionals have pretty polarizing opinions about what a toner does, who is meant to use it or if anyone should. If you are curious about where you land on the topic check out what a toner is here. For those who are ready for enhanced skin read on to see how to use your toner at home!
What Is A Toner?
While toners can be a controversial topic in the world of skin care, for some it is a must have in their routine. They are often infused with actives that can help provide the skin with hydration or many other beneficial ingredients to boost the desired results of any routine.
Whether it’s for brightening, exfoliating, soothing or hydrating benefits, a toner can help deliver specialized ingredients into the skin while improving the cleansing process.
How To Use A Toner
After you have cleansed the skin you are ready to apply your toner. There are two different methods you can use when using a toner, the first one is the easiest: Spray no more than three times across your face and let it dry. That’s it. For the second method you need to make sure you have some clean cotton balls or a cotton pad nearby.
Step 1: Dampen your cotton pad
Lightly dampen your cotton pad with your preferred toner. You don’t want the cotton pad to be dripping with product but it should be nicely saturated.
Step 2: Sweep your face
Starting from the center, lightly sweep the damp side of the cotton pad to the edge of your face following the natural curves of your facial features. Don’t forget the nose.
Step 3: Sweep the neck
Using the same light sweeping motion as before, start from the bottom of your collar bone and move towards the start of your chin.
Step 4: Continue your routine
Now that your skin is fully prepped, you will need to continue your routine with your recommended products from your account.
What To Expect When Using A Toner
While toning you may feel a cooling sensation as you pass the cotton pad over your skin, this feeling will reside quickly. Other than that it will take about a week or two to notice a smoother texture in your skin and 4-6 weeks to see the results of your chosen actives.
Toners help prep the skin so that the other products used in the routine function at their best! While the next product may vary, we recommend that you follow up with your serums.
For enhanced glowing skin, a toner is a great step in any routine. Using the correct toner for your skin type can help elevate your esthetic while targeting the concerns. Remember to use light, outward sweeping motions and to follow up with your serums.
