Your skin is put through a lot each day, including environmental pollutants, stress, and aging.
A simple routine of washing and moisturizing your skin once or twice a day is not enough to target all of your skin concerns.
Adding a mask to your skincare routine can target your skin’s deeper issues, like acne, dryness or hyperpigmentation.
It is daunting at first to add a new product to your regime, but we’re here to help!
We’ve put together this guide to help you switch up your everyday beauty routine and choose a face mask that fits your needs.
What Is A Mask?
A mask is a product that delivers concentrated active ingredients to the skin to maximize skin benefits.
There are a variety of masks suitable for all skin types. Face masks can improve the overall appearance of your skin and help decompress from stress.
How To Use A Mask
Before you’re ready to use a face mask, there are some important things you need to do first. Make sure your hands or tools you are using to apply the face mask are clean.
Another helpful tip is to not wear clothes that will cover your neck to prevent the mask from staining or making a mess.
Once you are comfortable with face masks, you can use them anywhere between once to twice a week, depending on your skin type and the type of mask.
Before using masks more frequently, make sure your skin responds well to the ingredients and go from there.
Step 1: Cleanse your face.
Use your normal cleanser to remove surfactants and any debris on your skin. This will help create a clean canvas for your mask to work its magic!
Step 2: Apply your mask with clean damp hands or mask brush.
Apply a moderate amount of product that allows your face to be covered similar to frosting on a cupcake. Be cautious to not apply any product in the eye or nostril area to prevent irritation.
Step 3: Leave your mask on and wait.
Leave your mask on for the recommended time on the instruction portion of the mask product. It isn’t recommended to leave the mask on for too long, keeping your mask on longer does not increase the benefits!
Step 4: Remove your mask.
Use lukewarm water to rinse the product from your skin. Make sure to rinse thoroughly; don’t leave any residue on your face.
Get your clean washcloth and gently pat dry excess water from your face.
Step 5: Continue your routine.
You will need to continue your routine aside from your cleanser with your recommended products from your account.
What To Expect
After using a face mask, your skin should feel rejuvenated and supple. If you are experiencing any irritation, you may be using the wrong mask for your skin type.
Masks are an effective way to deliver beneficial ingredients to your skin without a lot of effort.
Using a face mask can make a big difference in your skin, reduce stress, and boost the effectiveness of your other skincare products.
There aren't many things that are as relaxing as a face mask.
Remember to use the proper temperature for your water, use the appropriate amount of product, and be sure to rinse thoroughly.
