How To: Perfect Blowout

Have you experienced that wonderful sensation of walking out of the salon with gorgeously bouncy hair, only to find that when you attempt to recreate it at home, it never quite matches up? Fear not! With our invaluable tips and techniques, you can now achieve the flawless blowout right in the comfort of your own home.

Essentials:

How to:

Step 1: Start with Clean Hair.

Begin with freshly washed and conditioned hair. Use a lightweight conditioner to avoid weighing down your hair.

Step 2: Detangle.

Gently detangle your hair using a wide-tooth comb or a brush designed for wet hair. This will prevent any knots and tangles during the blowout.

Step 3: Apply heat protectant.

Protect your hair from heat damage by applying a heat protectant spray, balm or serum evenly throughout your hair.

Step 4: Section your hair.

Divide your hair into sections using clips or hair ties. Start with the bottom sections and work your way up.

Step 5: Start with the back.

Begin blow drying the back sections of your hair. Use a round brush with a ceramic or ionic coating for smoother results.

Step 6: Tension is key.

Take small sections of hair, wrap them around the brush, and apply tension as you blow dry from the roots to the ends. The tension will help smooth the hair cuticle and reduce frizz.

Step 7: Dry the roots first.

Focus the blow dryer on the roots initially to lift and add volume to the hair.

Step 8: Work your way down.

Move from the roots towards the ends, continuing to use the round brush to style and shape the hair.

Step 9: Roll and cool.

After blow drying each section, you can roll it back up in the brush and use the cool shot setting on your blow dryer to set the style.

Step 10: Repeat for all sections.

Work your way through all the sections until all of your hair is dry and styled.

Step 11: Add volume.

For extra volume, flip your head upside down and blow dry the roots using your fingers to lift the hair.

Step 12: Set with hairspray.

Once you achieve the desired style, set your blowout with a light-hold hairspray to make it last longer.

Step 13: Optional.

If you want a sleeker look, you can finish with a few drops of hair serum or oil to add shine and tame any frizz.

What to Expect:

Properly executed blowouts can significantly reduce frizz especially when paired with the perfect tool. A blowout can add volume and body to your hair, particularly at the roots. It should maintain some natural movement and bounce in your hair. It shouldn't feel stiff or overly styled but rather have a graceful flow to it. The well-groomed look can boost self-esteem and make you feel more ready to take on the day.

Remember that achieving a perfect blowout might take some practice, but with time and patience, you'll be able to create a salon-quality look right at home!
