5 Reasons Not To Use Pore Strips

5 Reasons Not To Use Pore Strips
Dec 9, 2022

We get it. Pore strips seem to get the job done, but it’s time to put them away in favor of something that won’t wreak havoc on your skin and can actually solve the issue.

Here’s why pore strips are not as helpful as they appear to be.

Reason 1: They are too harsh!

Pore strips use strong adhesives to try and remove the excess dirt and debris from inside the pores.

However, are we the only ones to notice they feel like duck tape held down with gorilla glue?

Neither of those we recommend getting close to your skin let alone your face!

The constant removal of pore strips leads to irritation and the left over adhesive can lead to more breakouts!

Reason 2: They cause breakage

Not the same kind of breakage your hair stylist talks about.

The removal process of pore strips can break the capillaries (tiny blood vessels) in the skin. Once a capillary breaks, it is a very hard fix.

Treatment usually requires multiple rounds of lasers so that $10 quick fix just became a problem that could run you a few thousand to correct.

Reason 3: Everything is surface level

The problem pore strips target is already present.

You see the clogged pores on your skin and want them to go away. What we don’t want is to keep buying things that won’t ever solve what’s going on under the surface!

If your skin is not cleansed of the contributors(dirt, dead skin cells, make up) that clog pores or does not have a healthy oil balance the endless cycle of pore strips continues with no end in sight.

Reason 4: They can’t replace exfoliation

If you need to remove blackheads, whiteheads, congestion etc… the simple solution is to exfoliate.

The results might not be immediate but they are consistent. There are many different forms of exfoliation to choose from based on your skin type.

We suggest a salicylic acid as it’s able to reach deep down into the pore to remove any unwanted impurities.

If you want more help on finding your best method of exfoliation update your Dermava account to ask an esthetician. You could also introduce a retinol into your routine to help your skin. While they don’t exfoliate they can help the cells turn over more efficiently and regulate the amount of oil on you produce.

Reason 5: You’re supposed to have hair there

What a lot of people are mistaking for blackheads are actually sebaceous filaments, or a tiny hair that helps get valuable oil to the surface of the skin!

Do you know what happens when oil can’t make it to the surface of the skin? It signals your glands to produce more oil which can leave you with acne or irritation.

While these hairs can appear unsightly, removal is not the best way to handle it! Pick up a salicylic acid or retinol if you want to minimize their appearance.

Let’s review: Pore strips tend to cause more problems than they solve, don’t get to the root of the issue and can remove the things we need to keep our skin fuctional. So instead, choose to smooth out congestion in your skin with exfoliation and proper cleansing techniques. These are going to be far more effective than an aggressive sticker.
